Karamjit
confident
NST, 28/6/2008
DESPITE a sudden
surge in international entries, national champion Karamjit
Singh believes the status quo will be maintained in Round
Three of the Malaysian Rally Championship, which begins
in Kuantan today.
"We believe we can still win
the third round," said Karamjit, "but the fight
for overall first place will be tougher than normal."
The presence of Indian champions Arjun
Rao and Musa Sheriff on board a powerful Mitsubishi Evolution
6 and New Zealand champion Mark Tapper in a similar car
does not bother the team too much.
Karamjit's GSR Pennzoil Team manager
and rally veteran Gunaseelan Rajoo is anticipating his team
could take the podium as overall winners, repeating their
success in Round Two in Perlis last month.
Gunaseelan and his brother and co-driver
Jayaseelen, will compete for the first time in their new
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9.
Another change in this Round is the
Perodua M5 Racing Team's decision to run two cars instead
of three, said to be due to budget constraints.
P. Nandakumar has been dropped by
Perodua and will now compete as a privateer.
Despite this setback, Nandakumar
is confident he can do well driving his own Proton Satria
which won second overall in Round One when Karamjit hired
and drove it and fifth overall in Round Two when it was
driven by Jasbir Singh, another Indian driver.
The competitors will be flagged-off
at noon today at the Felda Lepar Hilir 1 Primary School.
