KANCANA HAS NO FEAR
27 March 2008, Bahau, Negeri
Sembilan: Kancana Nanda Kumar is the driver in the all-female
GSR Pennzoil Racing Team and says she has no fear when it
comes to driving in the Felda-AAM Malaysian Rally (FAMRC)
this weekend.
“Rally driving is thrilling.
It gives me a rush. I am concerned about damaging the car,
but I have no fear when driving the stages inside the plantations,”
said Kancana.
Kancana, a newscaster for Bernama
TV, drove in her very first rally in the final round of
last year’s FAMRC in Perlis. She said her experience
in the Stages there prepared her for the muddy conditions
she expects in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan this weekend.
“Perlis is apparently one of
the toughest courses and it was very muddy and slippery,
so I have more of an idea of how to handle the car in Bahau
because of that experience,” she added.
Kancana and her new co-driver Dzainurhayati
Mohd Daud hope to compete in their Proton Satria in all
six rounds of the FAMRC this year. They said they are hoping
for a ‘clean year’, meaning limited mistakes
and car damage and, finishing each round.
“That doesn’t mean we
won’t push the car each time,” said Kancana.
“We should improve our technical know-how with each
round and be able to push it a little harder each time.”
Kancana decided to be a participant
in the rally after following and supporting her rally-driving
friends for some years. “I wanted to be a part of
the action and now I have my chance!” she said.
The GSR Pennzoil Racing Team has supported
her by providing the car, co-driver, uniforms, technical
and mechanical support and advice.
“The team has really spoilt me,” said Kancana.
“In fact, everyone involved in the FAMRC is very welcoming
so I feel very comfortable and I’m looking forward
to this weekend.”
