UPSET EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND
IN ROUND ONE OF MRC
28 March 2008, Bahau, Negeri Sembilan: There could easily
be an upset this weekend in the first round of the 2008
Malaysian Rally Championship (MRC) with many strong teams
entered and vying for the first Championship points for
the season.
2007 MRC Champions Karamjit Singh
and co-driver Jagdev Singh, who normally steer their Mitsubishi
Evo 8 easily first to the finish line, are forced to drive
a less powerful Proton Satria this weekend which paves the
way for other teams to challenge them for the winners’
trophy.
The Perodua M5 Racing Team has two
strong, experienced contenders in Kan Chee Hong and Bernard
Chin in the Perodua Myvi, and Lim Leong Onn and Kamarul
Anuar Mohd Razzali in the Perodua Viva.
Kan Chee Hong was Runner-up Overall
in last year’s Championship and Perodua won the Overall
Team category.
The GSR Pennzoil Racing Team of brothers
Gunaseelan and Jayaselan Rajoo is also eyeing a top three
finish. They have the experience necessary to handle the
slippery conditions expected in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan this
weekend.
Clerk of the Course for the
Championship, Tengku Shaharin Abu Bakar Almarhum Tengku
Suleiman, said the course is slippery because of the rain
earlier this week. “As it is now the course will be
fast but a little difficult for the newcomers because of
the slippery conditions. If it rains heavily this weekend
it will be very muddy and we could be pulling cars out of
the Stages,” he said.
More than 20 cars will be officially
flagged-off by YB Mohd. Razi Bin Kail, Negeri Sembilan Tourism
Exco, at Kompleks Feldajaya Selatan, Jempol, Saturday 29th
March at 12noon.
There will also be a two-day family
carnival held at the Kompleks with lots of fun-filled activities,
live singing performances by popular entertainers, booth
displays, an auto show, a classic motorbike show and car
stunt driving. The public is invited to join the festivities
which run from 10am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday.
Leg 1 of the rally will see the participants
compete in eight Stages with a total distance of 109.39km.
The longest Stage distance for Leg 1 is 16.78km at Feldajaya
while the shortest distance is 7.63km at Jerneh.
Leg 2 on Sunday, 30 March, will see
the participants compete in six stages with a total distance
of 72.3km.
The prize giving ceremony will be
held at Kompleks Feldajaya Selatan, Jempol at 5pm on Sunday.
The MRC is organized and
promoted by Wheel Sport Management Sdn Bhd and sanctioned
by FIA and Automobile Association Malaysia (AAM).
