Two of the Malaysian Rally Championship (MRC) 2009 finished today
with Karamjit Singh and co-driver Jagdev Singh of the GSR Pennzoil
Racing Team back on the podium.
The pair, who was leading from the outset,
finished fastest in 2hrs 14mins 12secs. Karamjit was determined
to finish first following his ninth place in Round One which was
due to a time penalty.
Gunaseelan Rajoo and co-driver Mohd Izwan
Abdullah finished second in 2hrs 23mins 27secs giving the GSR Pennzoil
Racing Team one, two in both the 4WD and P12 categories.
Guna, who had battled to secure a 19sec lead
over Rozali Abdullah of the Felda Rally Team on Day One, breathed
a sigh of relief when Rozali’s Proton Gen2 experienced engine
problems and failed to reach Special Stage (SS) 7, the first SS
of Day Two. A disappointed Rozali was out for the rest of the race.
The third fastest time was clocked by the
Indian team of Arjun Rao Aroor and co-driver Musa Sherif who finished
in 2hrs 38mins 39secs and took home the N4 category trophy.

Tukimin drove a steady race and were rewarded with victory in the
2WD and P9 categories and fourth overall with a time of 2hrs 42mins
17secs. To the delight of the spectators, the runner-up in the P9
category was Basir Abdul Rahman in his Mini Cooper.
Hong Kong couple Clayton Check Kai Liang and
co-driver Tracy Li Pan Chi bagged the first place trophy in the
P11 category with a time of 3hrs 31mins 09secs.
Juniors, Faidzal Alang and Hazwan
Fauzi, the winners of the Astro Ria Reality TV show ‘Zero.2.Hero’
won both the P10 and Junior categories and were second in the 2WD
category in their Proton Satria. They finished fifth overall with
a time of 3hrs 8mins 19secs.
Although it did not rain the second
day, the Stages proved challenging for many of the competitors with
half of the 24 starters not finishing all the SS. Mike Arikiosamy
Ratnam the winner of Round One in Cyberjaya in April retired from
the race due to a tragedy in one of his crew member’s family.
