EMERGED WINNER OF THE MALAYSIAN RALLY 2007 (mr7)

Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) leader, Cody Crocker of
Motor Image Rally Team manages to widen the gap between him
and his rival, Katsuhiko Taguchi of MRF Tyres Rally Team after
he emerged as the winner of the Malaysian Rally 2007 (mr7)
which was also the Fifth Round of the APRC.
Crocker steered his Subaru
Impreza WRX to clocked 02:49:46 at the end of Leg Two, 5min
33 seconds faster then Naren Kumar of MRF Tyres Rally Team
who clocked 02:55:43. Third place winner, Brian Green of Brian
Green Motorsport clocked 03:04:16 while Crockers team
mate, Indonesian Rifat Sungkar clocked 03:11:17 to finish
fourth, while Gaurav Gill of MRF Tyres Rally Team clocked
03:18:56 to finish fifth.
The unforgiving palm oil plantation
roads saw many casualties this year. Of 12 teams that competed
in mr7, only nine finished the rally. The first casualty was
Hiroshi Yanagisawa of Cusco Racing who lost his right rear
tyre in Special Stage 1 (SS1) before his car hit the embankment
and ditched. Malaysias only participants in the mr7,
Karamjit Singh had to retire after SS4 due to engine problem.
Meanwhile, in the local rallying
scene, Kan Chee Hong of Perodua M5 Racing was crown as the
winner of the Felda AAM Malaysian Rally Championship Rd. 3
(FAMRC) when he clocked 03:20:31 at the finishing line. Second
place went to Indonesian driver, Benny Lautan who drove Proton
PERT and clocked 03:23:52. The Rajoos brothers, Gunaseelan
and Jayaselan who drove Proton Gen2 finished third after clocking
03:27:53. Privateers Sutan Mustaffa Salihin who drove Proton
Satria clocked 03:32:46 to finish fourth overall while Ahmad
Shafie Jalil finished fifth after clocking 03:41:12
The Fifth Round of the FIA
Asia-Pasific Rally Championship which is also the Felda AAM
Malaysian Rally Championship Round 3 was officiated by the
Sultan of Johor in Danga Bay, on 10th August.
Thirty cars competed in this
years Rally which was held at Felda Bandar Tenggaras
palm oil plantation roads. The participants competed in Two
Legs (Leg One and Leg Two) which cover a total distance of
664.44km.
The First Leg which was held
on Saturday, 11 August, comprised of eight SS with a total
distance of 148.80km. SS1 was held at Sibol (28.67km), SS2
at Penggeli Factory (11.39km), SS3 at Pasir Raja 1 927.86km)
while SS4 at Pasir Raja 2 (6.48km). The participants then
head back to Sibol to compete in SS5 (28.67km) and SS6 at
Penggeli Factory (11.39km) as well as SS7 at Pasir Raja 1
(27.86km) before finished at last stage which was SS8 at Pasir
Raja 2 (6.48km).
The second day of the Rally
saw the participants competed in six special stages with a
total distance of 227.56km. SS9 was held at Inas Utara 1 (9.11km),
SS10 at Inas Selatan (25.63km), SS11 at Inas Utara 2 (4.64km),
SS12 at Inas Utara 1 (9.11km) and SS13 at Inas Selatan (25.63km).
SS14 which was also the last SS was held at Inas Utara 2 (4.64km).
This year, more than 30 teams
competed in mr7/Felda AAM Malaysian Rally Championship Round
3 (RAMRC) which was held at Felda Bandar Tenggara, Johor,
from 11 to 12 August.
All winners were presented
with their trophies by the Duli Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Mahkota
Johor, Tengku Ibrahim Ismail Ibni Sultan Iskandar at a Gala
Dinner held at The Zon Hotel.
