The battle for this year’s Malaysian round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) will be close, and could go to either Mitsubishi or Subaru. The top APRC drivers will either be driving the Impreza, Evo 9, 8 or 3 in this year’s competition.

So far, 13 drivers have confirmed participation for the APRC category while 17 cars are to fight it out in the Malaysian Rally Championship Round 3.

Among the top drivers to come and excite Malaysian rally fans are Japan’s Katsuhiko Taguchi, Finnish Jarkko Mietinen, former MR5 winner Brian Green, Indonesia’s Rifat Sungkar and his brother Rizal and Subhan Aksa, current championship leader Cody Crocker, Eli Evans, Hiroshi Yanagisawa and Fan Fan of China. They will either be driving a Lancer Evolution series or Subaru’s Impreza.

From our local turf, we will see Karamjit Singh and Jagdev Singh in his Proton PERT Evo 3, Gunaseelan Rajoo and his brother Jayaselan, Saladin Mazlan and Arish Kutb, and Rozali Abdullah and Hilmi Zulhassan.

Perodua M5 Racing Team is expected to roll out its Myvi rally car, which will be driven by Kan Chee Hong and Bernard Chin.

Proton will also be putting up a fight with two Gen.2s this time round with Sutan Mustafa heading the pack.

The APRC, which will be held between Aug 18 and 20 in Kota Tinggi, Johor, should see more local involvement this time around.
