Bio:
James Russell has been a competitor in motorsports since
2001, when he was just twelve years old. Although born
in Canada, he has lived almost his whole life in Malaysia,
and proudly competes with a Malaysian competition license.
Now twenty,
James has amassed an impressive list of successes in
karting, circuit racing and rallying... the latter as
both a driver and co-driver.
In 2003
he won the Dunlop AMC Endurance Kart Championship. He
then moved to single-seater race cars, gaining a podium
finish at the age of seventeen in the Formula Malaysia
F1 Support Race at Sepang, despite having no testing
time or practice. He has finished 18th overall, setting
the fastest lap in Class B, in the 12-hour Merdeka Endurance
Race at Sepang, driving an low-powered Proton Satria...
an event he has now finished twice.
And in
rallying, he has had many successes - class wins and
podium places - both in Malaysia and Thailand. To round
out his motorsport experience, he is now a competent
mechanic, frequently preparing his own cars, and he
works as a part-time kart and simulator trainer.
His other
interests sometime need to take a back seat, but whenever
possible, James plays basketball and soccer, and is
proficient at rock climbing. A black belt in Tae Kwon
Doe is also on his list of achievements.
Currently,
full-time education also has to be fitted into his schedule,
as James is now in his final semester at the local campus
of Victoria University, studying for a Bachelor of Business
degree.
James
intends to make motorsport his career, with the ultimate
objective being a professional rally driver, perhaps
with some endurance racing thrown in for good measure.
