Karamjit keeps lead
4th
November 2007, NST
THERE were several casualties
on the first day of Round 4 of the FELDA-AAM Malaysian Rally
Championship 2007 (FAMRC) in Kuantan yesterday but this did
not prevent rally ace Karamjit Singh and co-driver, Jagdev
Singh from maintaining their position as overall leaders.
The duo steered their Mitsubishi
Lancer Evo 8 confidently to complete the 14 stages rally after
closest rival, Kan Chee Hong and new co-driver Arish Quth
Ahmad Khan, suffered a shock when their Perodua MyVi's gear
box broke.
Chee Hong and Arish have rectified
the problem and will be ready for the second leg today.
The Perodua M5 Racing Team
suffered another setback when Chee Hong's teammate Lim Leong
Onn and Kamarul Anuar Mohd Razali had to quit early when the
engine of their Perodua Viva overheated.
Disappointment and frustration
was written all over their faces as their hopes to at least
complete the rally and not go home empty-handed, were dashed.
However, newcomers Magendran
Arunasalam and Daveender Singh feel they hold the advantage
to win the Clubman class as leaders Nik Ammar Mohamed and
co-driver Roduwan Rashid failed to finish the rally.
At press time, the top three
leaders were Karamjit Singh-Jagdev Singh in the Mitsubishi
Lancer Evo 8, Benny Lautan-Edwin Nasution in the Proton PERT
and Nandakumar Puspanathan-Mohd Izwan Abdullah in the Perodua
MyVi.
