November 2007, Malay Mail
THE fourth round of the Malaysian
Rally Championship has finally reached a close despite the
rocky uncertainties plaguing the round on the first and second
days.
The reigning champions of the round, predictably, goes to
rally king Karamjit Singh and his co-driver Jagdev Singh,
clocking 2:11:02 seconds on their Mitsubishi Evo 8 to take
home the Championship trophy.
Meanwhile, second and third
places went to Indonesians Benny Lautan and Edwin Nasutan
in the Proton PERT (2:21:48s), and Sutan Mustaffa Salihin
and Ahmad Nadzrie Ahmad Suhaimi in the Proton Satria (2:26:42s)
respectively.
Kan Chee Hong and Arish Qutb
Ahmad Khan in the Perodua Myvi finished fourth, clocking an
overall time of 2:38:11s.
The two other teams from the
Perodua M5 Racing Team both ended the round on did not finish
statuses.
Fifth place went to Muhammad
Rafiq Udhaya and Cheah Chii Keen in the Proton Satria Neo
at a time of 2:41:14s. On his win, Karamjit expressed his
jubilation amidst problems his team had been facing.
We were having problems
with the car previously.
It even broke down while
test- ing two weeks ago so we were very careful so as not
to push the car too much this time and did our best at a comfortable
pace, he added We had a lot of fun in Kuantan
and hope to come here every year for the Championship,
he said.
Initially we worried
as to how the Championships will turn out due to the conditions
weve had with the rain, which affected the stages up
till recce day.
Despite all that, 14
of the 19 cars entered finished so we find that to be a good
thing.
Overall, weve had
a good weekend, said rally organiser, Wheel Sports Management
Sdn Bhd director, Tengku Shaharin Abu Bakar Almarhum Tengku
Suleiman.
He also told reporters after
the award ceremony that Malaysia will hold the Asia Pacific
Rally Championship.
The dates have been confirmed
to be on Oct 11-12, 2008, and will be at FELDA Tenggara, Johor.
The final round of the MRC will be in Perlis on Dec 8-9.
