Wet Battles Ahead in Perlis
NST,
7th December 2007
THE Felda Malaysian Rally Championship
concludes with its final round in Perlis from today with battles
set throughout the field, most juicy of all the one between
two veteran crews in the P11 (1,600 to 2,000cc) class.
The rally starts off under wet and slippery
conditions with six special stages (SS) around the Chuping
plantations today, marked by a longest third SS of 19.71 kilometres
at Weigh Bridge, which is also the opening SS for tomorrow's
six remaining stages that conclude the MRC season.
And that is just how class P11 leaders
Kan Chee Hong and Bernard Chin want it to be today, as they
fight out the class championship with the Rajoo brothers Gunaseelan
and Jayaseelan.
The Perodua M5 Racing Team duo of Kan-Chin,
on board a four-wheel drive Perodua Myvi, believe they hold
an edge over the two-wheel drives, particularly Gunaseelan-Jayaseelan,
on board the GSR-Pennzoil Team's Proton Gen2.
Kan, who has 47 points in the championship
standings, leads Gunaseelan by just three points.
Chin had lost out on the co-drivers'
championship to Jayaseelan after sitting out the previous
round in Kuantan on Nov 4-5, where the overall title was wrapped
up by Karamjit Singh and co-driver Jagdev Singh.
The P11 title is not the only one being
contested right to the wire as the P9 (up to and including
1,400cc) class drivers' championship is also being contested
between Jamaluddin Tukimin and Nik Ammar Mohamed. Both are
tied on 30 points.
The P11 class drivers' title is also
up for grabs between the two leaders Ahmad Shafie Jalil and
Sutan Mustaffa Salihin. Ahmad Shafie leads Sutan by a single
point, 49 to 48 entering today's first SS.
